Today was our third day in London, and we started the day by going to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Later in the afternoon, we broke off into groups to complete the rest of the scavenger hunt. Our scavenger hunt ended in Camden Market, where we were able to do some shopping and have something to eat. The weather was great today, and I was happy to be out and about.
The Victoria and Albert Museum was probably my favorite place we went. This museum exceeded every expectation I had in mind. The art was unbelievable, from British to Asian to Rococo, Grecian, and Iranian. I was honestly overwhelmed with the amount of art everywhere in this museum.
One of the first rooms we entered on the first floor of the museum had many religious pieces, like cartoons at the Sistine Chapel and the Legend of St. George mural. After this, we headed upstairs to see portraits of famous figures in European culture, including Napoleon and Dudley North. My favorite room in this museum was the music room, which Sophia and I stumbled upon. The room was gold and white, with beautiful mirrors and ceiling work. The 9th Duke and Duchess lived in the Norfolk House in St. James Square, where the music room was located. Another exhibit that I enjoyed was the 1900s-present-day art and artifacts. We saw everything from postwar radios to Amazon Alexas. Something that really struck me as unsettling in this room was that I had forgotten about many of the technological advancements over the years. I truly value the work in the Victoria and Albert Museum and that they have already started collecting items from the present day to soon make history.
Exploring this museum taught me a lot about the history of not only London but many other cities, which was fascinating. After the museum, we broke off into our groups to start the next hunt. We completed our scavenger hunt for most of the afternoon and wrapped up when we were in Camden Market, and we finished the afternoon by doing some shopping. Overall, today was a very eventful and exciting day in London!
